A compact instrument that can go from the Island Strum to Chopin in only 4 strings!
I learned to play the Uke after already being an experienced 6-string guitarist. I immediately fell in love with the instrument for its simplicity, mobility and purity.
The Uke in all of its sizes (from Soprano to Baritone) is a wonderful first instrument for students (and NOT just kids either!) because of its relative low cost, mobility and simple chord voicings. However, as skill level increases, students find that it’s also an instrument that is capable of power and expression.
For the majority of my students, I incorporate a teaching method such as the Hal Leonard Ukulele Method. I augment our learning program based on the student’s desired path with classical pieces or music from rock/pop/movies. There is so much more to the uke than what is found in the first 4 frets, I aim to help my students unlock the entire fretboard and play the instrument with confidence.
