Here’s a song I wrote on the Ukulele (with a FB link to my band page). Not long ago, I bought a colorful baritone uke at a thrift store in Woodinville, WA. Tucked into the case of this battered (at the time) instrument was a heartfelt postcard from a sister to her younger brother. The card talked of hopes and a lot of past challenges and a lot of distances travelled. I was challenged by friends to write a song around this story, so here it is, enjoy!

I’ve just made it a bit easier to schedule lessons, especially your first lesson with me.

After we have our first lesson, I will set up a regular weekly lesson time for you.
Summer Uke Clubs are On!

Our summer uke clubs are happening now. Is anyone tired of Zoom yet? I’m not…it just took me a year to use one of the “virtual backgrounds”…it needed a white wall behind me to make it work…and so my white phone decided to get lost in the weeds! 🙂
If you’re interested in the uke clubs (there’s one for kids and one for adults) check out our Summer Events blog post for more info and registration…we’ll be doing these free and “pay what you can” events through the end of August.
Spring 2021 Update
I just sent out the Spring 2021 update to my mailing list. It includes some buzzing bees from the studio yard, a recap of our recent after-school program and registration links for 2 new Group ukulele weekly sessions starting up in June…here’s the link to the newsletter on FB.
If you’d like to stay up to date on all of my latest news, my newsletter is a great place to do that. If you sign up (link to Mailchimp below, email required) I promise that I will only use your email for newsletter communications, on a quarterly basis unless something especially wonderful happens!

After-School Ukulele Classes at Woodmoor Elementary
Aloha! Fun news! I will be running Winter and Spring sessions for an after-school group Zoom uke class at Woodmoor Elementary, part of the Northshore School District.

Each after-school session will run on 6 consecutive Tuesdays from 4-5pm and will be limited to 15 pre-registered kiddos between grades 1-5.
The Winter Session kicks off on Tuesday March 2nd and runs through Tuesday April 6th. The Spring session will kick off after the break on Tuesday April 20th and will run through May 25th.
The cost of each 6-event session is $100 per student. For students who don’t own a ukulele, I will have 15 “loaner” ukes available for each session with a refundable $50 deposit. The school will distribute the loaner ukes if they are needed.
No Ukulele playing experience is be required. We’ll learn a new Uke skill in each session such as positioning, notes, chords and strums. In each session we’ll also learn songs that are fun to sing and play, at any level.
These sessions are only available to after-school students at Woodmoor Elementary and will be hosted on a Zoom link by a Woodmoor PTSA parent/representative.
Get in touch with me if you would be interested in my running similar programs for your school district or school!
Cheers,
David
Classical music on the Uke…Fantasie-Impromptu by F. Chopin. Enjoy.
Who knew that the Uke was an instrument capable of power and emotion?
Here’s the proof, with a link to Youtube for my an arrangement of Chopin’s Fantasie-Impromptu posth Op. 66 (2nd Theme) from 1834. This is not too hard too play, it’s suitable for the advanced beginner…take your time with it and enjoy how easily it slides between the G, E7, A and D7 chords.
If you’re interested in playing this piece, here is my arrangement written at flat.io.
