Why private music lessons?

There are so many free apps and online resources for those who want to learn music. Why would anyone “pay” for a music lesson? Every musician at every skill level has used those resources too. For example, all guitarists will occasionally stop in at ultimate-guitar.com to find free charts and TABs. For my own students, I may send them there for homework…to do some digging and groundwork to learn a new song.

But it’s also true that you get what you pay for. And regardless how incredibly some resources are, you will have to sift and evaluate carefully to find accurate content that works for you.

A private teacher helps you to cut through the noise and focus on precisely what you need and when on your learning journey.

Also, learning an instrument is not a constant climb…it’s a series of plateaus that need to be climbed over. Even a highly advanced player will occasionally benefit from a private lesson to gain a new perspective…or a that new skill that allows them to reach a new level in their playing and expression.

Most students will not stay with one teacher for years. Generally, students who work hard and invest in their playing will find that they benefit from multiple teachers over the years…often after they’ve graduated from a basic method and want to focus on a specific genre…at this time they may move to a specialist.

Speaking of “free” content, here’s a link to my Youtube channel. Currently, it includes a lot of workshop content from my Tuesday Morning Uke Club online sessions!
